If you leave Manhattan on a Friday morning, about two and a half hours later you can be on a quiet back road in the Beechwoods of Callicoon. In front of you is a 19th-century dairy barn and 28 acres of open fields.
If you’re one of the NYC couples looking at weddings outside the city, that drive is worth thinking about. It’s far enough to feel like you’ve gone somewhere, and it’s also close enough that nobody needs a passport or a connecting flight.
Still, a wedding a few hours from home comes with real questions. How do guests get here? Where do they sleep? What do they do between Friday and Sunday?
This guide covers the practical things NYC couples need to sort out before getting married in Callicoon, NY.
We’re The Barn on Hubbard, a restored 19th-century dairy barn in Callicoon, in the western Catskills of Sullivan County. With weddings for up to 200 guests, most of our packages are three-day rentals, so your wedding can stretch across a weekend instead of fitting into one evening.
Curious whether we’re a good fit? Schedule a tour and walk the barn, the gardens, and the grounds in person.

Callicoon is a practical middle ground for NYC couples. It’s close enough for an easy weekend, and far enough to feel like a real getaway.
Here’s what it offers:
If you’re on the fence, ask yourselves one question: do we want our people for an evening, or for a weekend? There’s no wrong answer, it just tells you a lot about whether a destination wedding fits.
If you’re curious about seeing the space, there’s a lot we couldn’t fit here, from the original hand-milled beams to the bar built into the old silo. The simplest option that most guests will pick is driving. There are three ways to get here, and for all of our NYC couples, they are all worth mentioning on your wedding website to make planning easy for your guests.
Driving will take approximately two and a half hours from Manhattan, as it’s about 115 miles. Friday afternoon traffic can add time, so leaving early may be the best option for guests arriving the day before.
If your guests prefer the bus, ShortLine runs from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Monticello in about two hours. Monticello is roughly 25 miles from Callicoon, so guests will need a ride for the last stretch. Departures are limited, so guests should check the current schedule before they book.
The train is the last option, with Port Jervis Line running from Hoboken and Secaucus to Port Jervis. From there, Callicoon is still more than 40 miles away, so this works best for guests who arrange a pickup.
Callicoon is rural, with the barn sitting on a back road outside of town, so once guests arrive they’ll want a car. A shuttle or bus service between hotels and the barn will be the best option on the wedding day itself. Our lot holds about 70 cars, and our staff helps guests park for the 45 minutes before the ceremony and the 15 minutes after. A shuttle also means that there is never a choice between a second glass of wine and the drive home.

Callicoon is a small hamlet on the Delaware River in Sullivan County, with Pennsylvania right across the bridge.
Main Street is lined with historic buildings that hold shops, cafés, and galleries. The Callicoon Theater, a single-screen movie house, is the oldest continuously operating theater in Sullivan County. On Sundays from spring through fall, the Callicoon Farmers’ Market sets up in Callicoon Creek Park.
The barn is a short drive out of town, surrounded by fields and hillside views. Days here are slow, and evenings are quiet. Think lantern-lit pathways, fire pits in the courtyard, and the sun going down over the fields.
Big hotels or a nightlife strip are not available here, but if you’re coming from the city, that might be exactly the point.
Lodging around Callicoon is mostly small inns, bed-and-breakfasts, and vacation rentals. The Western Hotel, for example, has just ten rooms. NYC couples with a big guest list should share lodging options as early as possible.
A few places we like recommending:
A rental house for the wedding party might be worth considering too, as it gives everyone one place to get ready, eat breakfast, and regroup.

You don’t need to plan every hour of your guests’ weekend, and a short list of ideas on your wedding website is plenty.
Close to town, the Callicoon Farmers’ Market runs on Sundays from spring through fall at Callicoon Creek Park, with local produce, cheese, baked goods, and crafts. The Delaware River is just steps from Main Street, so guests can rent a kayak, float down in a tube, or spend a few hours fishing.
For a slower afternoon, Seminary Hill Orchard & Cidery has a tasting room with small-batch cider, seasonal food, and views over the Delaware River Valley. If it rains, The Callicoon Theater shows new releases and independent films in a vintage single-screen theater.
Guests who want a day trip have a few easy options. Narrowsburg is a riverfront town with boutiques, galleries, and the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Livingston Manor has specialty shops, a local brewery, hiking trails, and well-known fishing streams. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, now hosts concerts and has a museum.
At the end of the day, it always counts to spend the whole morning on the porch with a coffee too.

When your guests and vendors are all traveling, extra time is what keeps the weekend calm. For NYC couples planning from a few hours away, that time matters even more.
Our packages for 100 guests or fewer and for 100 to 200 guests include three days:
Our Micro Wedding package, for up to 50 guests, includes 12 hours of venue time.
Here’s what those three days make easier:

The rest will unfold at its own pace, the way most things do up here.
